Our environmental principles
As an innovator in underground construction, BESSAC has made building with a conscience front and centre in conception and execution of all projects.
While preserving the environment has always been important, BESSAC’s activities have reached the point where each and every project must demonstrate a measurable impact in reducing its carbon footprint and optimizing resources thanks to its efforts to build a circular economy.
BESSAC has an environmental responsibility for all its projects, both locally in France and in its international projects. This translates into a proactive approach, guided by objectives that are both ambitious, but also absolutely necessary.

Our environmental strategy
This environmental strategy highlights:
– Energy efficiency and reducing carbon footprint in all activities (Scope 1, 2 & 3).
– Responsible management of excavated material, water resources and pollution.
– Integration of climate issues starting from machine design and carried through to project implementation.
– Ongoing dialogue with all stakeholders, to achieve shared environmental goals.

Our objectives
In demonstrating our commitment to these goals, we have the following environmental objectives for 2030 :

Reduction in GES emissions
on scopes 1 and 2

on scope 3

of all concrete used in our projects will be low-carbon concrete
These objectives guide us in terms of technical, industrial and logistical choices.

For BESSAC, environment is at the heart of everything we do: from conception through to execution, technical innovation and competence of our team, we are determined that the infrastructure of tomorrow must meet the technical and ecological requirements of today.
For BESSAC, building underground means contributing to a future that’s more resilient, more conscientious and fully respectful of nature.
Thanks to an industrial model based largely on reuse of our TBMs and MicroTBMs, with each being reconditioned according to the needs of future projects, BESSAC offers a wide range of diameters without resorting to new equipment. Refitting and reusing our machines helps improve our environmental sustainability..
Existing achievements
BESSAC’s existing achievements in using low-carbon illustrate our commitment in this domain.
The “Croult” microtunnel: DN1600
With a 920m length, constructed using an ultra-low-carbon EXEGY concrete by BESSAC (117kg CO2 eq/m3) for SIAH in the Paris Region: a concrete that had 3-4 times fewer emissions than regular concrete.
Twin-tube tunnels for Line B connection for Toulouse Metro DN4660
With a 2 x 250m length, constructed in a low-carbon EXEGY concrete by BESSAC with metakaolin (149kg CO2 eq/m3) on behalf of TISSEO: a concrete that had 2-3 times fewer emissions compared to standard concrete.
